TREATY OF HUDAIBIYA
- In 6 A.H., the Holy Prophet (pbuh) had a dream that he had entered the Sacred Mosque at Makkah.
- He decided to go to Makkah for performing Umrah, or the minor pilgrimage.
- The Quran says: "Truly did Allah fulfill the vision for His Messenger: ye shall enter the Sacred Mosque, if Allah wills, with minds secure, and without fear" (48:27)
- The Holy Prophet (pbuh) set out for Makkah with 1,400 unarmed companions.
- The Quraish decided not to allow the Holy Prophet (pbuh) and his companions to enter Makkah.
- The Holy Prophet (pbuh) stopped at Hudaibiya, a place three miles from Makkah.
- He sent a messenger to inform the Quraish that they had come unarmed and wished to perform Umrah.
- The messenger did not return, so another was sent, and then Hazrat Usman was sent.
- Hazrat Usman was detained by the Quraish, and a rumor spread that he was killed.
- The Holy Prophet (pbuh) collected his followers near the oasis of Rizwan and took an oath from them.
- The oath is known as Bait-e-Rizwan, and the Quran says: "Allah's Pleasure was on the Believers when they swore fealty to the under the tree: He knew what was in their hearts, and He sent down tranquility to them: and He rewarded them with a speedy victory" (48:18)
- The Quraish were disturbed by the oath and decided to negotiate a treaty of peace with the Muslims.
- They quickly sent a messenger Suhayl bin Amr to do peace negotiations with the muslims.
- The Treaty of Hudaibiya had several terms, including:
- Muslims would return to Madinah that year.
- They would be permitted to come for pilgrimage next year but would stay only for three days in Makkah.
- If a Quraish from Makkah joined the Muslims without permission, he would be sent back to Makkah.
- and if a muslim from madinah comes to makkah, he wudnt be returned.
- There would be no fighting for ten years.
