Why did shah waliullah have such a major influence on the revival of islam in the subcontinent? [7]
- islam had lost its purity, and hindu customs had crept into islamic practices. this worried shah waliullah. he realised reform cud only come from within the islamic community, the muslim leadership in delhi was weak. he decided to revive islam by telling muslims what was islamic and what wasnt.
- he believed the real cause of decline was due to ignorance of muslims from Quran and Sunnah. he wanted muslisms to bring islamic teachings back into their social economic lives, this wasnt possible without making quranic teachings accessible, hence he wished to revive islam, as result translated Quran from Arabic to persian.
- shah waliullah wanted to protect muslim identity and religion. he believed islam cudnt be properly practised while under infidels rules. muslims will forget true teachings of islam, he therefore wished to revive.
