Battle of Uhad
- after the battle of badr, Makkans vowed to take revenge from the muslims
- the leader of Banu nazir tribe kaab bin ashraf of jews from madinah, went to makkah to participate in the mourning of the lost leaders in the badr.
- the jews even wrote poetry to instigate the makkans to take revenge
- abu sufyan went to banu nazir, and kaab bin ashraf promised to help, against the tribe’s term with the prophet.
- meeting were held preparations made, funds collected, other tribes invited
- an army of 3000 men left makkah to attack muslims in madinah
- prophet called shura for consultation on how to meet with this threat, after discussion it was agreed to go outside madinah to face the makkans, even tho prophet wanted to stay inside makkah, yet he agreed with the majority
- quraish camped at hilll of Mount uhad 3 miles to madinah
- prophet led 1000 companions, on their way, Abdullah bin Ubbay the leader of hypocrites deserted with 300 of his men, he had the excuse that prophet had rejected ubbay’s idea of fighting from inside the madinah.
- "Those of you who turned back on the day the two hosts met, - it was Satan who caused them to fail,-." (3:155)
- prophet reached uhad with 700 men
- he posted 50 archers to protect the pass on the uhad, so to protect muslims army from an attack from behind.
- The Quraish army, accompanied by several women including Hinda, daughter of Utba, and Umm-e-Hakeem, granddaughter of Abu Jahl,
- The battle began with the Quraish attacking first, but the Muslims fought bravely under the Holy Prophet's command, killing and wounding many Quraish warriors. The Quraish began to flee, leaving behind loot
- when the muslim archers saw quraish running, they came down to collect loot, without seeking prophets permission.
- khalid bin walid the quraish commander saw that and routed his men to attack muslims from behind, catching the Muslims off guard. The Holy Prophet was wounded in the head and face, losing a tooth.
- The enemy spread the rumor that the Holy Prophet had been killed, causing confusion among the Muslims. However, the Holy Prophet stood firm, calling out to his companions to return.
- The Muslims regrouped, and with renewed support, they managed to move the Holy Prophet to a safe area. The fighting continued, but eventually died down,
- The battle resulted in 70 Muslim casualties, including Hamzah, an uncle of the Holy Prophet, who was killed and mutilated by Hinda. The Quraish suffered 30 casualties.
